Indian media sources have reported that the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) suffered a significant financial loss of billions of rupees after hosting the ICC Champions Trophy 2025. According to the reports, the PCB incurred a loss of PKR 8.69 billion during the tournament, prompting the board to take strict measures, including cutting players’ match fees and discontinuing 5-star hotel facilities.

As per NDTV, the PCB endured an 85% loss on its investment during the Champions Trophy. Reports indicate that the board faced a deficit of $85 million (approximately PKR 23 billion) due to the tournament, further worsening its financial situation.

Pakistan played only one match on home ground during the Champions Trophy, with the remaining matches held abroad. The team played their first Group A match against New Zealand in Lahore, which they lost. They then faced India in Dubai, suffering another defeat. Their third match against Bangladesh was canceled due to rain, resulting in Pakistan’s exit from the tournament.

According to the Indian newspaper The Telegraph, the PCB spent PKR 18 billion (approximately 58million)toupgradestadiumsinthethreehostcities:Rawalpindi,Lahore,andKarachi.Thiscostwas5058million)toupgradestadiumsinthethreehostcities:Rawalpindi,Lahore,andKarachi.Thiscostwas5040 million on event preparations. However, the PCB received only $6 million in hosting fees, while revenue from ticket sales and sponsorships was negligible.

The report states that the PCB faced a total loss of $85 million during the Champions Trophy. In response to this financial setback, the board has implemented several austerity measures. The match fees for players in the National T20 Championship have been reduced by 90%, while reserve players’ fees have been cut by 87.5%.

Citing the Pakistani newspaper Dawn, Indian media reported that the PCB recently reduced match fees from PKR 40,000 to PKR 10,000. However, PCB Chairman Mohsin Naqvi rejected this decision and ordered the domestic cricket department to review the matter.

Furthermore, the facility of 5-star hotels for players has been discontinued, and they will now be accommodated in economy hotels.

According to the Indian media report, the PCB’s financial losses have once again put Pakistani cricket in a difficult position, potentially affecting both players and the board’s future plans. However, PCB Chairman Mohsin Naqvi has promised immediate measures to improve the situation.
