Ahmad Al-Shara, who rose to power as the interim leader of Syria after ousting Bashar Al-Assad, recently performed Umrah in Saudi Arabia alongside his wife, Latifa Al-Darobi.
According to Arab media, the charismatic Ahmad Al-Shara’s growing popularity has now brought his wife into the media spotlight for the first time.
During Ahmad Al-Shara’s visits to Saudi Arabia and Turkey, his wife Latifa Al-Darobi accompanied him and even met with Turkey’s First Lady.
These meetings have sparked curiosity about Latifa Al-Darobi, who had previously maintained a low profile.
In an interview with Al-Arabiya, Ahmad Al-Shara reflected on the challenging times of the past, revealing that his wife had to live with him in the mountains due to the circumstances.
The new Syrian president further shared that during those difficult days, they were forced to change residences multiple times, and his wife always faced hardships with a smile.
Ahmad Al-Shara has only been married once. He and Latifa Al-Darobi have three sons together.
Not much is known about Syria’s First Lady, Latifa Al-Shara, but available information suggests she hails from the town of Al-Qaryatayn in Syria.
The First Lady comes from a prominent religious family in Syria and holds a master’s degree in Arabic language and literature.
According to the BBC, her family includes well-known religious figures, such as Sheikh Abdul Ghaffar Al-Darobi, a renowned Quran reciter from Syria.
Saudi media has claimed that one of Latifa Samir Al-Darubi’s ancestors, Ala al-Din Al-Darobi, served as Syria’s second president in 1920.
However, just one month later, on August 21, 1920, Ala al-Din Al-Darobi was assassinated. He had also served as an ambassador for the Ottoman Empire.
