A fresh controversy has gripped Sardar Bahadur Khan Women’s University (SBKWU) after reports, surfaced that male security staff were posted inside the girls’ hostel. The move has triggered anger among students and parents, raising questions over privacy, safety, and the credibility of the administration.
How It Started
The matter came to light when hostel warden Hameeda Kakar strongly objected to the deployment of male personnel. She argued that such a decision not only violated the norms of a women-only institution but also created an environment of discomfort for the students living there.
University’s Response
Instead of reviewing the decision or addressing her concerns, the university administration allegedly took action against Kakar. Vice Chancellor Dr. Rukhsana Jabeen is reported to have dismissed the warden from her post, a step that fueled even greater criticism.
Hameeda Kakar’s Allegations
Speaking after her removal, Kakar accused the administration of attempting to silence her voice rather than resolving the issue. She maintained that her objection was solely in the interest of students’ security. Kakar has now appealed to the Government of Balochistan and higher education authorities to conduct a fair and transparent inquiry.
Public Concerns Growing
Posting male staff inside a women’s hostel is being widely seen as a breach of privacy and cultural sensitivities. The dismissal of the warden has raised concerns that the administration prefers cover-ups over accountability. The controversy has sparked wider debate on the safety and dignity of women in higher education across Balochistan.
Why It Matters
Observers warn that incidents like this can undermine trust in women-only institutions, discouraging families from sending their daughters to pursue higher studies. Activists and educationists alike are urging the provincial government and HEC to step in immediately and ensure transparency, accountability, and respect for student rights.
