SIALKOT –Pakistan’s defense minister, Khawaja Asif, acknowledged on Saturday that the country had defaulted due to the deteriorating economic situation and uncertainty regarding the IMF loan program’s revival.
When Asif was addressing the annual convocation ceremony of a private college in his hometown of Sialkot, he said, “We are living in a bankrupt country.” He attributed the country’s worsening situation to politicians, bureaucrats, and the establishment. Pakistan has already defaulted, according to Khawaja Asif, the Defense Minister.
The PML-N leader stressed that Pakistan’s problems could be solved internally, and that the IMF program would not be a solution. He stated that the sale of just two golf courses constructed on land owned by the government could significantly reduce Pakistan’s debt. He stated that Pakistan could sell these two clubs to pay off one-fourth of his debt.
In addition, the defense minister offered his condolences for the lives lost in the fight against terrorism and stated that security agencies were working hard to eradicate the scourge.
He claimed that terrorists had been permitted to re-settle in the country two years ago, which appeared to be a dig at the PTI governments.
