A 15-year sentence and massive fines for spreading rumors on social media have been approved by the federal cabinet

In order to take tough measures against cybercrime actors, spreading rumors, propaganda, harassment, and those who propagate misinformation on social media, the National Cyber Crime Investigation Agency (NCCIA) has received approval from the federal cabinet.

In addition to severe fines, those who commit cybercrimes, such as attacking public people or governmental organizations, may be  5 to 15-year sentence in jail.

The NCCIA is now fully functioning after 11 months of preparation, with the ability to work with foreign groups to combat cybercrime.

The caretaker administration created the agency in December 2023. Under the new regulations, the Cybercrime Wing of the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) has been disbanded, and its officers will now work for the NCCIA for a year.
