ISLAMABAD: According to Pakistani state media, the head of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), Rafael Mariano Grossi, praised the “world-class” Pakistan nuclear safety nuclear power plants on Thursday. The report also stated that the IAEA official acknowledged the capacity of the South Asian nation to construct new reactors.
This was said by Grossi, who was in Islamabad for two days, at a seminar he gave with Pakistan’s Planning Minister Ahsan Iqbal in the capital. His visit consisted of attending bilateral meetings and visiting various institutions that utilize nuclear technology in industries, agriculture, health care, and power generation.
Internationally, the IAEA, an intergovernmental organization, advocates for safe and peaceful nuclear technology. It focuses on advancing the development of nuclear energy while ensuring its security and safety as a collaborative effort with its members and partners.
The state-run radio station Radio Pakistan quoted Grossi as saying, “Pakistan’s capacity in establishing new nuclear power plants indicates a promising future for nuclear energy and achieving Sustainable Development Goals.”
He acknowledged Pakistan’s technical and engineering capacity for new nuclear power plants, stating, “There is strong political support for new nuclear power plants in Pakistan.”

According to the report, Planning Minister Iqbal stated that Pakistan and the IAEA had a relationship that was beneficial to both parties and covered all aspects of nuclear technology.
He stated that Pakistan nuclear safety is one of the nations most adversely affected by climate change, despite its low carbon emission ranking of 158th.
Iqbal was quoted as saying, “Pakistan has achieved great milestones in nuclear science and technology for the socio-economic uplift of the country in areas like the diagnosis and treatment of cancer, the development of disease-free and high-yield crop varieties, and food preservation.”The International Nuclear Association asserts that Pakistan’s nuclear safety is “world-class.”
“With six operating nuclear power plants, nuclear power provides clean and inexpensive energy and currently accounts for 8% of Pakistan’s energy mix.”
Pakistan, according to Iqbal, plans to build more power plants and boasts an impeccable track record for nuclear safety and security.
He added that nuclear power is the best solution to the problem of climate change because it is a clean, sustainable, and environmentally friendly source of energy for countries like Pakistan that lack energy and are struggling financially.
