SC Justice Mazahar Naqvi is being sent to the SJC once more due to an audio leak.

ISLAMABAD – The Pakistan Bar Council (PBC) filed a reference against Supreme Court Justice Sayyed Mazahar Ali Akbar Naqvi with the Supreme Judicial Council on Friday in an effort to bring him under investigation for alleged misconduct. Naqvi came into the public eye as a result of alleged audio leaks that involved him, former Punjab chief minister Parvez Elahi, and others.

Mian Dawood, a lawyer, filed a reference against Justice Naqvi last month for having alleged assets that were beyond his means.

The PML-N cited two high-ranking judges as being biased against the party and its leadership in the references filed against him. At a press conference, Interior Minister Rana Sanaullah had shared a leaked audio in which Elahi is allegedly discussing court management.

The PBC has documented its protest against the sitting adjudicator in the SJC under Area 5(1) of the Preeminent Legal Gathering Methodology of Request, 2005 read with Article 2009 of the Constitution of Pakistan.

“Article-III of the Code of Conduct requires a judge to be approachable, and for this reason, a judge is expected to conduct himself in an improper manner in all official and/or private activities.

The leaked audio showed the former chief minister “clearly instructing a learned counsel to get an important case fixed before the respondent judge,” according to the PBC. It also demanded an investigation into the judge’s assets and raised questions about them. SC Justice Mazahar Naqvi is being sent to the SJC once more due to an audio leak.
